Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does organic mean in terms of clothing?
    - Most of our cotton garments are made from 100% organic cotton. Organic cotton is a natural, GMO-free fibre that uses less water than standard cotton. Its production does not involve the use of chemicals (no fertilisers or pesticides) and encourages rotation of crops to keep soil healthier, more fertile and maintain humidity.
  • How are your garments printed?
    - All our garments are screen printed by hand using water based inks. - We do not used plasticol inks, which contain plastics and are bad for the enviroment, as they also need chemicals to wash out the inks from the screens. - Each garment is individually screen printed, taking special care for detail. - The ink is permanent and can be ironed over.
  • How should I wash the bamboo, Tencel and Ecovero t-shirts?"
    - We recommend all of our garments to be washed at 30º (as it saves energy and helps the environment) but particularly the bamboo, Tencel and Ecovero, as they are more delicate than the organic cotton garments and are more susceptible to shrinkage. - Cool or delicate cycle is recommended. - Hand wash in cool water would be ideal, but not a necessity. - Do not tumble dry but line dry or dry flat.
  • How are your designs drawn?
    - All designs are original artworks hand drawn by Sahara Boston, using either micro fine pens, felt drawing pens, or painted inks onto paper. No computers are used in the drawing process, and only very occasionally are any rulers used. Most, including Stone, The Sea, Flower, Secret Stone are drawn straight on paper with a pen, no premilary with a pencil.
  • Will the ink wash out?
No. All inks are water based permanent ink, which are heated to 250c to cure them so they do not wash out. The ink will last as long as the garment does. Inks can also be ironed over, so no need to iron inside out.
  • How are the bamboo garments made?
    - Our bamboo garments are made from sustainable bamboo wood pulp. Bamboo is a fast growing plant requiring no pesticides to grow and it is widely regarded as being an ecologically friendly fabric. The material is known to be antibacterial and have natural deodorising qualities which pulls sweat away from the body, whilst also having good insulation in colder seasons. Bamboo is kind to the skin and extremely soft with a smooth and silky feel to it, excellent for people with sensitive skin. Our bamboo t-shirts are made with a mix of 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton.
  • What is recycled polyester?
Some of our garment are made using recycled polyester (recycled plastic bottles) (up to 40%) to organic cotton in some of our sweatshirts and hoodies. To ensure that the sweatshirts and hoodies that we use are nice and soft against your skin, it is never in direct contact with the polyester, which is sandwiched between two layers of organic cotton.
  • What does sustainable manufacturing mean?
    - Sustainable manufacturing is the creation of manufactured products through economically-sound processes that minimise negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources. Sustainable manufacturing also enhances employee, community, and product safety.
  • What are Tencel, Ecovero and modal materials made of?"
    - Tencel®, Lenzing™Ecovero™ and Modal® are biodegradable and made from certified renewable eucalyptus or beech tree pulp. Eucalyptus is known for being a fast-growing wood that does not require irrigation. The Tencel manufacturing process has received the “European Award for the Environment” from the European Union due to its low emissions. The cellulose fibres are sourced exclusively from the Austrian manufacturer Lenzing, the first fibre manufacturer to have received the EU Ecolabel, which promotes environmental excellence.
  • What does GOTS stand for?
    - GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard label. The strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres. GOTS tracks the entire chain of production from farm to factory: from harvesting of the cotton, weaving of fibres, assembly of items, to the final product before printing. It certifies cotton that is GMO-free and is grown without the use of chemicals and is processed and dyed without using any banned toxic substances.
